Qatar Denounces Drone Strike on Sudan Aid Convoy

(MENAFN) Qatar issued a sharp rebuke Saturday following a deadly assault on a World Food Program humanitarian convoy in Sudan's North Kordofan State, decrying the incident as a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry delivered a forceful condemnation of the strike targeting relief workers, calling for immediate safeguards to shield humanitarian personnel deployed across the conflict zone. Authorities in Doha underscored the critical necessity of maintaining uninterrupted aid flows to vulnerable populations in the embattled state.

The Gulf nation renewed its call for coordinated international and regional action to bring Sudan's brutal civil war to a peaceful conclusion, while pledging continued backing for the country's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political stability.

Sudan's government has pinned blame on Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militants for launching the drone assault on the WFP relief mission in North Kordofan, resulting in both fatalities and the obliteration of critical supplies earmarked for internally displaced persons.

Territory across Sudan's 18 states remains fractured along battle lines. The RSF maintains control over the entirety of the five Darfur region states in the west—save for army-held pockets in North Darfur. Meanwhile, government forces dominate the majority of the other 13 states spanning the nation's southern, northern, eastern, and central regions, including the strategic capital Khartoum.

Since hostilities ignited between the army and the RSF in April 2023, the devastating conflict has claimed thousands of lives while forcing millions from their homes.
