QatarEnergy Moves to Cease Chemical Production
The state energy giant confirmed the sweeping halt in an official statement: "QatarEnergy is stopping the production of some downstream products in the State of Qatar, including urea, polymers, methanol, aluminum and other products."
The announcement follows Monday's cessation of LNG output and associated production at facilities located within Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City — two of Qatar's most strategically vital industrial hubs — which the company attributed directly to "military attacks."
The shutdowns come as Qatar faces an intensifying barrage of aerial threats linked to the widening conflict ignited by U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Qatar's Defense Ministry disclosed that since hostilities commenced, the country's airspace has been targeted by a combined assault comprising three cruise missiles, 101 ballistic missiles, and 39 suicide drones — a scale of aerial bombardment that has fueled mounting alarm over regional stability and global energy supply chains.
Multiple explosions have been reported across the country over the past several days, underscoring the direct physical threat now bearing down on one of the world's most significant LNG exporters.
