Russia, Qatar Call for Diplomatic Solution to Strait of Hormuz Crisis

(MENAFN) Russia and Qatar have held high-level discussions focused on the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides emphasizing the need to avoid military escalation and prioritize diplomatic solutions.

During a phone call between the Russian foreign minister and his Qatari counterpart, both officials reportedly agreed that any use of force to resolve tensions should be rejected. Instead, they stressed the importance of coordinated international efforts aimed at reaching a long-term and stable agreement that takes into account the security concerns of all Gulf states while preserving freedom of maritime navigation.

Qatar’s foreign ministry said the conversation also covered broader regional developments, including ongoing ceasefire arrangements between the United States and Iran and wider efforts to reduce tensions in the region. Both sides highlighted the importance of continued mediation initiatives designed to address underlying causes of the crisis through dialogue rather than confrontation.

The two diplomats further underlined the need for all parties to engage constructively with mediation efforts and work toward a sustainable political settlement that would prevent further escalation in the future.

The talks come against a backdrop of continued regional instability following earlier military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran, which led to retaliatory measures and disruptions in key shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
