Egypt, Qatar Push for Diplomacy as Regional Tensions Intensify

(MENAFN) Egypt and Qatar have urged the United States and Iran to lower tensions and engage with ongoing mediation initiatives aimed at resolving the latest regional crisis following recent exchanges of attacks involving Iran and Israel.

In a statement, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry emphasized the need for a prompt understanding between Washington and Tehran, saying such an agreement would help restore stability and security across the region while addressing unresolved issues.

According to the statement, Cairo stressed the importance of tackling key matters, including Iran’s nuclear program and the security of maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, in a manner that could contribute to bringing the conflict to a complete end.

Meanwhile, Qatar also renewed its call for restraint. According to reports, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani urged all parties to contain the current escalation and encouraged both the United States and Iran to positively engage with mediation efforts aimed at achieving a negotiated settlement.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry said Sheikh Mohammed held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which they reviewed the ongoing diplomatic initiatives between Tehran and Washington as well as recent developments in Lebanon.

The calls from Egypt and Qatar come amid growing regional concerns over the potential expansion of the conflict and continued efforts by mediators to prevent further escalation.
